Gearing up!
Startup Maine Week, Summer Social, and Northwoods No. 5
We’re gearing up for a big Spring and Summer season. Startup Maine Week is right around the corner (tickets are available now). Not only are we hosting a collaboration event that week, but we are also scheming up the return of our Summer Social for July. More on that soon!
In other news, we had a bit of April Fools Day fun launching a new perfume scent (Northwoods No. 5) and this week is our first experiment with Nexus DNNR Club. Today is the last day to sign up if you are still interested!
Based on informal conversations it sounds like many people are still unaware of the perk program. If you are a member of the Nexus Slack you also get access to our perk program which has discounts at a variety of local and tech resources from co-working spaces to cap table management software. Total benefits are over a few thousand dollars, so definitely check out the perks here if you haven’t already (just request access to the doc).
Lastly - if you want even deeper connections and direct access to everyone in the Nexus community and the perks program, please apply here to join us in the Nexus Slack group.

Career/Bio
Hi, I’m Matt! - from UMO Civil Engineer dropout to whitewater guide, to catching the startup bug in 1997, from a spectacular IPO failure, to another IPO that worked out. Podcasts were invented at our conference table, spent 20 years doing that, raised money, sold the company, hung out with the buyer for a while, now back to starting a new thing - Municipal Alpha - building the Municipal Knowledge Graph. I’ve been known to locate things from time to time. Starting at the Roux Institute in the National Security Innovation Hub in April.
Why Maine
My roots are in Northern Maine, trees, not potatoes, and went “away” for a girl, 30 years on, it seems to be working out. After selling my company, I wanted my kids to enjoy Maine like I did. They’re happy, I’m happy. Being outside, fishing, hunting and being near the water is magical.
Away from the Keyboard
Trying to undo what 10 years of start-up grind and international travel for work did to my body and mind. Take care of your health folks. 9-9-6 is for suckers. You’re better off eating better, working out, playing pickleball and spending time with friends and family.
Lets talk
I read every town hall meeting minutes, master plans, budgets, warrant articles from 2,100+ municipalities across 50 states so you don’t have to. I create structured, investable data and valuable insights that help businesses make better decisions. Updated daily at https://municipalalpha.com.
